- Hi! I’m Max and I'm a freshman at Carlmont. This is my second year participating in Dry Ice and I'm enjoying the challenge of being Captain of the team this year. My primary focus is managing the team along with hardware. I look forward to gaining more leadership expertise as well as further developing my software and design skills. I have four years of experience with C#, Python, and Java. I’m interested in robotics because of its vast potential to make a positive impact in the world. In addition to robotics, I also enjoy programming, participating in Carlmont's wrestling and cross-country teams, and playing the piano and violin.
Eli Chen | Co-Captain, Hardware,
Hi my name is Eli and I'm currently a 8th grader at Ralston Middle School. This is my second year as part of 9784 Dry Ice. I'm currently the co-captain of the team and aim to lead the new members as well as take on a lot more responsibility. Because the older members are leaving soon, I need to step up and take a leadership role. I have an interest in STEM because my father works in the AI industry and I hope to be as accomplished as him one day. Outside of robotics, I enjoy playing volleyball and basketball.
Eric Zhang | Co-Captain, Hardware
Hello! My name is Eric, I’m a rising 8th grader at Ralston middle school. This will be my 2nd year doing FTC robotics as a part of the hardware team. When I was first introduced to robotics, I knew close to nothing about the skills required to do well. However, with the help of my teammates, I have learned a lot about CAD, engineering, and hardware. Most of all, I have been able to meet an incredible community of people through FIRST that inspires me to continue in the STEM field and contribute to the community. Along with robotics, I enjoy playing volleyball doing martial arts and playing cello.
Derek Zhang | Youth Advisor, Outreach Management
Hi, I'm Derek. I'm a Senior at Carlmont High School and this is my 6th year participating in FTC. We're excited to welcome six new members to Dry Ice. In this new season, I hope to continue Dry Ice's strong tradition of creating innovative solutions, building meaningful bonds within our team and with the robotic community, and driving greater impact through our extensive outreach events. Outside of robotics, I enjoy reading, solving puzzles, and creating fun things with CAD.
Josh Lin | Hardware Lead
Hi, I’m Joshua. I’m currently a Junior at Carlmont High School. This is my 2nd year participating in FTC. I mostly focus on hardware and CAD. I also know some software development in Java. The main part of Robotics I enjoy is applying the engineering design process to create new parts from scratch and modeling parts to 3D print. This year, I hope to develop my skills in design and manufacturing and learn to work with more with unfamiliar scenarios. Outside of robotics, I enjoy playing the drums, trumpet, and swimming.
Paul Zhou | Software Lead, Driver Coach
Hey! My name is Paul and I'm currently a junior at Carlmont High School. This is my first year as a part of 9784 Dry Ice. I plan on focusing on the software aspect of robotics, but am open to trying hardware and design as well. I have always enjoyed robotics because it serves as a real world application of my theoretical knowledge of computer science. Along the way, running into real problems and finding creative ways to solve them has helped me grow as a person. Outisde of robotics, I also enjoy painting, playing the violin, or just embracing nature.
Taylor Butcher | Hardware
Hi, I’m Taylor Butcher! This is my first year on the Dry Ice Robotics team. I am an 8th grader at Ralston Middle School. I love robotics because it allows me to think critically and create solutions to real-world problems. I enjoy and am interested in hardware because I can be hands-on and create robots, but I am also interested in software and I hope I can pick some up over future seasons. Aside from robotics, I enjoy hanging out with friends, being outside, playing soccer, listening or playing music, and learning.
Alexis Butcher | Hardware
Hey, I’m Alexis! I’m currently an eighth grader attending Ralston Middle. It’s my first year being part of Dry Ice 9784. I enjoying participating in hardware and CAD, and am looking forward to improving in software as well. I enjoy doing robotics as it has no limits on creativity, and lets me practice other skills, such as teamwork, responsibility, public speaking, and thinking outside the box. Besides robotics, I like spending time playing violin, practicing soccer, and attending math and Chinese classes.
Kathy Zhang | Hardware
Hi! I’m Kathy Zhang and I am currently a freshman at Crystal Springs Uplands School. This is my first year with Dry Ice and I am excited to be a part of the hardware team! I'm particularly eager to work with the big tools in the workshop, as I find hands-on projects fascinating. Outside of robotics, I enjoy playing volleyball and the baritone saxophone and I occasionally dabble in boxing. Furthermore, I have a passion for cooking, and I love taking my dog on walks.
Maggie Lam | Driver, Hardware
Hi, I’m Maggie. I currently attend Ralston Middle School as an 8th grader and this is my first year on the 9784, Dry Ice Robotics Team. I am thrilled to be part of such a talented group of people. Being on the hardware team, I look forward to honing my tool-wielding skills, immersing myself in the world of problem-solving and critical thinking, and improving my public speaking. Apart from robotics, I engage in competitive dance, play the violin, and enjoy tumbling.
Ruthie Alcazar | Hardware
Hello there! I’m Ruthie and I’m currently an eighth grader at Ralston Middle School. This is my first year as a part of the 9784 Dry Ice team. This year, I plan on focusing on mostly hardware and outreach. I look forward to further developing my skills in CAD and design. Daniel Jiang | Software
Hello, my name is Daniel. I am currently a sophomore at Carlmont High School. This is my first year on the Dry Ice robotics team, and I am part of the software team. I have 2 years of Python, C in robotics, and Java. My primary focus of the team is to build a foundation of robotics-centered knowledge as a team and person. I enjoy robotics because it provides the intersection between seemingly complex arrangements of words to a processed and managed set and order of complicated actions. The methodology of translating language to actions provides an ever-expanding horizon of innovation, teamwork, and variety. Outside of robotics, I enjoy playing tennis, reading, and exploring nature.
Forest Fu | Software
Hello, my name is Forest and I am an 8th grader attending Ralston Middle School. I enjoy playing the violin and simple games like Flappy Bird, platformers, and Tetris in python. I am planning to be on the software side of 9784 Dry Ice, and it is my first year here as a new member. I decided to join the team because of the skills that being on a robotics team will teach me, such as programming in Java, critical thinking, and working on a team. Finally, I’d like to see programs that I write come to life through our robot.
