On October 1st Dry Ice Robotics attended the Save The Music Festival in Belmont. Although the festival is primarily based around music, we came as part of the STEM community. Our surrounding booths were two other robotics teams which were in First Robotics Competition league.
We began the day by presenting our various posters and awards from the previous season. Surprisingly we gained quite a bit attention , despite the event being oriented around music, and with the initiation of our robot dance program, more people became intrigued. Throughout the day, we would periodically initiate this dance program, and almost every time, it attracted a crowd. As the day progressed we shifted our focus from doing demonstrations to interacting with the public. We introduced people to our team and robot and even allowed them to drive it. Many of the younger children really enjoyed this, and were even interested in joining the team. By late afternoon, as more bands began to perform, the STEM area gradually lost its popularity and we did one final demonstration. The whole outreach event was a short endeavor, but nevertheless, many people came over to our booth throughout the course of the event. |
