On January 7th, Dry Ice invited #11101 Team Steam to our workplace for discussion and idea sharing. Team Steam was in need of inspiration for their robot, and they graciously accepted our invitation. During the meeting, we discussed different methods for fundraising and business planning, both of which are important to the survival of a team. We also gave them advice about their robot, including information on how to counterbalance it, as the robot had a tendency to tip over forwards. We also suggested more efficient materials for a faster driving system and a stronger glyph collection system. For example, they used dish sponges to grab glyphs, but we recommended using foam, which had a much stronger grip. Other than advice for their robot, we also scrimmaged with them, partially for friendly competition and partially to test the effectiveness of all of our robots. However, Team Steam’s robot broke down, so we had to fix it before we began the scrimmages. Through their experience with our team members, they learned new skills that they could apply to their own team.
